I thought I'd start a thread where we can discuss the new War Scrolls. I haven't looked through them all yet but I'm pretty impressed with the Dark Elves. I'm not familiar with the old rules so don't know if they are improved or not but they seem pretty strong. The Hydra has 12 wounds and can regenerate 3 a turn! Also regular Dark Elves shields allows you to re roll failed saves of 1 and 2 in combat. I think we'll see a lot of standard bearers in lists now as they add 1 to your bravery which I think will play an important part in AoS games. I also like that a lot of the large monsters have different stats depending on how many wounds they have lost so they basically get weaker as you hurt them. All the rules can be found here www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Warhammer?N=102295+4294965657&Nu=product.repositoryId&qty=12&sorting=phl&view=table&categoryId=cat440002a-flatWould be great to hear other peoples first impressions on any units that stand out to them.

I opened the Dwarfs on a whim "you may reroll an unbinding dice if you are younger than your opponent" for being a young apprentice of the forge. Holy moly.

Marius lietdorf for empire has "if during your hero phase, you pretend to ride an imaginary horse you can re-roll failed to hit rolls for the Averland Runefang untill your next hero phase. If you actually talk to your imaginary horse you can re-roll failed to wound rolls as well".

Lol, finding these quite funny to be honest, how much impact they'll have on the game is negotiable though. I have a feeling that they'll be ignored as soon as it starts getting old.

Despite them being quite humourous, these silly rules have dampened my excitement for the game somewhat. I'll still play it but I will ignore the silly things. I'm quite puzzled as to why GW have added these

Because at the end of the day, their target audience, in their eyes, is kids with parents and other relatives who will spend large amounts of money on the game in one off hits, something like this will get them hooked at an in store demo.

Im finding the lack of any decernable points values. Or even guide lines to list building off putting. Also doesnt seem complete. As the grand master of the metal lore for empire. Says if your playing in the realm of metal he gets some bonus. But there is no rules for playing in different realms

I think that first and foremost like you said Wayne, the game is incomplete, what we've got is the starter rules, basic guidelines to play the game, nearly every edition of Fantasy and 40k has in all fairness been released alongside stat-lines without points costs, I'm pretty certain that in your example the Realm of Metal will be explored at a later date as I remember reading somewhere this set is based on just the one realm, can't recall which though. I struggle to believe there will not be a massed battle rule-set coming out, considering the majority of repeated rumours have turned out true and GW already has something in place to allow for ranked up units of round bases. I think we have seen the end of Army Books as unit rules will be included with each release if rumours are true and in their place we will see expansion detailing things like battles on other realms that will introduce new rules to the game. There is a line in the rules about choosing which realm you are fighting on as it will have effects on the game but I have yet to see anything about the effects these realms have, so that seem like an obvious shoe-in for expansion to me. Another thing we will get I believe is faction books, I don't think these will contain the rules for any units but will contain thing akin to 40k's Formations that will unify certain armies within the 4 factions. The possible massed battle expansion that is apparently due later in the year will probably be where points costs are added and be more competitive gamer friendly. I think that this first release is aimed at casual players who just like to play very narratively and kids.
Secondly, we have to remember this is just the very first release and if the last 12 months of 40k have any bearing on the amount of content that GW are willing to release then we should expect a metric S***-load of stuff to be released for Age of Sigmar over the coming months, especially if the rumours about it encompassing the next 6 months are true.
Personally I have yet to play the game or even look too closely at the rule-set but I am looking forward to giving it a try and think I will enjoy it, but in its current form it is a game that I would only ever want to play casually, preferably in some kind of campaign probably as that is where its strengths currently lie. As for the silly little rules, they are pretty much going to be ignored by nearly every single player IMHO, if not straight away then after 1 or 2 weeks definitely.

I'm gonna use the small amount of Brets Tha I've currently got and either start a Nurgle force force or look at something new.
I'm bringing the Brets down today if anyone wants a game this morning.

Well my verdict is in and it is an awesome game, as long as you are willing to use some common sense with what you are both bringing to the table. I don't think you really need to change anything to bring 'balance' to the game as its not really a game about balance, its fun, the special silly rules withstanding which I think everyone can agree will wear out quickly enough.
My only real problem is with measuring from the model and I may ask my opponents if it will be okay to measure from the bases instead, this is not because I believe there will be a flood of players who will convert their models to be stretching inches off of their bases but because quite frankly its just plain awkward.
At the end of the day, like Wayne was saying earlier today to Jay, it doesn't matter what you do, working out armies by wound count, Warscroll limits etcetera, there will always be a way to break the system and this is not a game designed with tournaments or balance in mind, so I say screw it, bar the base thing use the rules as written, go out there have some fun because at the end of the day its a game and it is to be enjoyed.
At the end of the day this is my opinion, but I urge you all to give the game a try with no changes before trying to change it.
